This article brings up some good points.
We don't allow teens to tan at our tanning salon without parental consent, but most parents don't have a problem with their kids tanning in moderation. It's also important for parents to teach their children of the benefits and dangers of what the modern world has to offer.
I don't think any parent tells their child that a painful sunburn is healthy. Similarly, too much exposure to any kid of UV (natural or tanning bed) is a bad thing.
The key is moderation, and following the recommendations of tanning professionals.
As an alternative, airbrush tanning comes with zero risk of skin damage or cancer.
That's what I recommend to our teen tanners here in San Diego.
