San Diego County Supervisors Compared: Politics, Discretionary Funds, Salaries

My opinion is that the County supervisors get much less scrutiny than the mayor and city councilmembers. Consequently, the degree of difficulty of the supervisor job is less than it is for many other political positions.

San Diego's Downtown Library: Is It Now Or Never?

In all the years of debate about a downtown library, I have heard no compelling reason why a "main" library is necessary as opposed to a branch library. Most ardent supporters seem to have ulterior motives. Those without ulterior motives haven't really thought this through; the overwhelming majority seem to favor a main library because in essence, we've always had one. When I ask people how often do they use the downtown library, none of them use it very often, and most of them have NEVER been to the downtown library. When I ask the follow-up question; "why do you want to raise your own taxes for something that you don't use," they have no answer. Even if a main library was a good idea, the city has grown and spread out, downtown is not the best location, downtown is no longer the geographic nor population center of the city.
