Poll Shows Kevin Faulconer Is Front Runner In San Diego Mayoral Race

I'd love to know how much in debt to Manchester and people like the Koch brothers does Faulconer find himself. I've really hated the ads I've received from his supporters. I think of all the positive ways money could be spent rather than buying an election. It's most disheartening. And, no, I'm not enthusiastic about Fletcher either.

U-T San Diego Buys Eight Community Weekly Newspapers

When Manchester succeeds at buying up all local media, it will be the end of finding balanced reporting. He is trying to buy San Diego to force his political will be a sad day when he succeeds. But money talks in this town and unfortunately he and his pals have too much of it. When Manchester has the only voice, it is the end of honesty and truth in reporting.

San Diego Mayoral Candidate Mike Aguirre Works To Overcome Past

I worked for the City when Aguirre was City Attorney. I didn't think he was always wrong with his policy positions, but he was a terrible manager of the department. It is hard for me to believe that he has changed so much that he could manage the City any better. He may mistake making staff fearful as having respect but it's just not true. I realize there is a portion of the public that resents City workers and wants them punished for terrible decisions made by the City Council and unions, but the majority of City workers are decent human beings who do not need a work place atmosphere filled with intimidation, and that truly seemed to be the Aguirre style. He would have to show a much larger change than he has for me to vote for him.

Legal Battle Over Encinitas Yoga Continues

I don't get their faith so fragile and meager that they think a few stretching exercises is going to contaminate their holier-than-thou selves? Aren't there more important things to worry about?

School Officials Look Into Serra High Blackface Incident

Tyra Banks recently held an art exhibit where she was made over to look like white models so it is not true that no black person has ever done white face. Maybe because it is "art" and not a costume, that makes a difference. I don't know.

A Conversation With San Diego Mayoral Candidate Nathan Fletcher

I hope KPBS will provide links in one place to all the conversations with the candidates. The one with Mr. Alvarez is here: .

A Conversation With San Diego Mayoral Candidate Nathan Fletcher

I just don't trust Fletcher, and it is hard for me to believe that, because he owes such a huge debt to Jacobs and Qualcomm, he wouldn't favor them when making decisions (aka deals). I know Jacobs is a great benefactor to San Diego, and more power to him, but he will inevitably use his money to influence whoever is mayor or is on the council. Of course I'd rather have a mayor indebted to a local donor rather than outside ones (like the Koch brothers) but I'd really prefer someone who has fewer ties (which eliminates anyone but millionaires from being able to run; I know). Having a mayor in his pocket would be a great advantage to Qualcomm, and Fletcher has shown with past behavior that he bends with the winds of opportunity. Yes, people can change but I am just not that confident he has.

A Conversation With San Diego Mayoral Candidate David Alvarez

Unless the theory is that only Caucasians represent the benefit of Caucasians, I don't see any reason to believe Mr. Alvarez couldn't represent people from a variety of backgrounds. Mr. Coons has dropped out of the race and is now supporting Mr. Alvarez--still might be interesting to hear what he has to say. I personally am tired of having the old boy/girl downtown types representing our highly diverse city, but that's just me.

Trio Says Making Public Harassment Allegations Against Filner Was Wrenching

Too late to go back in time but it would have made all the difference had someone like Ronne Fromann (who certainly had nothing to fear from Filner) come out BEFORE the election. I only voted for Filner because I would never vote for DeMaio, but I would have chosen differently had I known about his activities before I filled out my ballot. He was so protected all these years...that's something the Democrats should be ashamed of. The result is that we are going to have an expensive election (perhaps two) to replace a man who had no business being elected in the first place. So much for all the talk about transparency in government.

Three-Foot Separation Now Required for Drivers Passing Bicyclists

Unfortunately I see too many bikers come far out into the car lane and there is no way to allow 3 feet because of the other traffic. This is another "sounds great" and is impractical kind of ideas. I do stay behind a bicyclist when there is not enough room to get around them, but it would help if they would pull back in when they have the space on their other side instead of meandering in front of the car. There are too many bicyclist who think they have the right to run over pedestrians on sidewalks, fly through stop signs and red lights, and weave across lanes. They never get a ticket for that but they can cause a hazardous situation by being so relentlessly careless. Not all of them, but too many of them.
