Dr. Conrad deserves a lot of praise for bucking the CVMA, whose position on declawing has a lot more to do with the almighty dollar than humane treatment of cats. The caller who would have killed a kitten, because of a few scratched furniture legs disturbed me a great deal. Killing a living creature for the sake of the furniture is frankly sick. Dr. Conrad provided a wealth of information on the actual effects of declawing, none of which are positive, and humane alternatives. The host of the show surprised me with what I considered to be a hostile attitude toward Dr. Conrad. He also didn't really listen to her explanations. This is contrary to what I expect from NPR.
