Broadcasting Pioneer Gloria Penner Dies At 81

I had the great privilege of being acquainted with Gloria at several levels. First and certainly the most enjoyable was as part of a "gourmet" club for several years. She and I would always arrange to sit next to one another so as to talk news and politics. But I also had the honor of being a guest on her show a couple of times as the San Diego Medical Society president. That, while exhilarating, could not be described as "fun". Before the shows she would tell me that this was the point at which friendship would have to take a back seat to journalistic integrity. By that she meant she had done a great deal of research into my issues and would be asking tough questions and would not abide any evasiveness. As I think back on those shows, not just with me but with many others, I am saddened to realize that this form of journalism no longer exists now that we have so many biased interviewers with an axe to grind. Gloria's integrity will not soon be forgotten.

CCDC Delays Downtown Quiet Zone

We who live downtown have lived with one quiet zone delay after another. Not the least bit surprised at this one. There's always some excuse for failure. There's no reason to trust that there will be any more accuracy to the May date prediction than to any of the myriad other failed predictions. So, don't count on this one being correct either.

Oceanside Man Sparks Debate Over Airport Security Procedures

I agree that this scanning is meaningless and pretty much a waste of time and money, but, that said, it's really not a big deal, as there is no health hazard involved. Let's just let this go and move on to issues that matter.
