I'm a native San Diegan who grew up in North Park in the 50's and spent most summer days in Balboa Park, at the zoo or at the "Muni" at Morley field. I was one of those lucky enough to live close at a time when the zoo was free to children under 16! Balboa Park is the crown jewel of my home town and I believe it should be preserved and protected from change in the rest of the city. My opinion is that the Plaza and the bridge should be made pedestrian only (except for accomodations that will need to be made for our handicapped citizens and visitors). I agree with those who say that the ramp will only encourage more vehicular traffic on the Bridge and actually worsen the pedestrian experience. The only way to really appreciate this grand entrance to the park, and the vistas from the bridge is on foot. Surely there must be a less obtrusive place for a parking structure that doesn't require the use of the bridge for access.
