Briana Bilbray Ad About Cancer Research Raises Contradictions

If the GOP manages to repeal Obamacare, by the time it's gone Brianna Bilbray will probably have passed on and then Mr. Bilbray can go back to not caring and let the fund run dry.

Imprisoned Cunningham Wants Gun Rights Restored When Released

How about letting him have his gun in Arkansas on condition he never sets foot in California again...

5 Charged In Sweetwater School Corruption

Maybe "of its kind in San Diego County" means a case that the County DA filed without the feds having to take it to trial.

There's no cyanide testing involved in this case and no developmentally disabled person being accused of killing giraffes and elephants in satanic rituals, so maybe the DA will be able to get this one right.

Family Awarded $17.8M From Military Jet Crash

Yes, my guess is that the attorneys knew that whatever amount they proposed would be reduced by the court according to some unwritten formula. Notice that they immediately declared the judge's award to be "thoughtful, fair and reasoned."

"Questioning how much the family members depended on each other" was an incredibly insensitive choice of words. Better to have just declared they had no idea what a fair amount would be and ask the judge to decide.

Do You Want a Parade to Celebrate the End of War in Iraq?

I'm not a soldier or a veteran, but it seems to me that most returning servicemembers would probably appreciate it a lot more if the politicians clamoring for parades would just pledge to stop trying to slash veterans' benefits and close VA hospitals.

Power Fully Restored In San Diego County; Schools Closed

crysharris, there's a link at the top of the page for donations. With the House majority in DC out to silence PBS, if we don't click on it, nobody else will.

Power Fully Restored In San Diego County; Schools Closed

The only thing "historic" and "unprecedented" about this blackout was the fact that it hadn't happened here before. This was caused by the same sequence of cascading failures that allowed a single-point failure to black out the entire Northeastern US in 1965, and in nearly 40 years utilities have done nothing to effectively ensure that a single-point failure won't bring down an entire grid even after deregulation allowed them to raise their rates and profits with impunity. If deregulation doesn't make power any more reliable than it was when it was less expensive, we might as well re-regulate it and bring the prices back down.
