Well, that's about what we expected to happen when the NCT & Californian were first bought, isn't it? Lynch and Manchester decimated and devalued the papers so badly that subscribers canceled. (I finally dropped my subscription when they stopped delivering the North County edition to Poway several months ago.) Then they use the fallen numbers to justify liquidating most of what's left.
A lot of good people have now lost their jobs, and for what? The Union-Tribune's local coverage beyond the city has been so thin for so long, there's no case to be made that the NCT or Californian were even competition.
