Alice In Wonderland Mural Discovered On SDSU Campus

We are extremely fortunate to have an inquisitive archaeologist such as Seth Mallios and a deeply knowledgeable librarian/historian like Evelyn Kooperman. Thank you to them and to KPBS for the story.

I'm certain there are many other fascinating historical detail about San Diego still to be discovered or shared, as is demonstrated by new materials that keeps coming out on Ken Kramer's "About San Diego", Richard Crawford's website "SanDiegoYesteryday" and Roger Showley's local history articles in the Union-Tribune (still good for something!).

I-5 Freeway Expansion Report Lists Potential Environmental Impacts

What a waste of billions of dollars that could better be used for alternatives to driving the freeway in a private vehicle. Re "Transportation officials say if carpool lanes are added, commute times could be cut in half." I have to wonder if they've checked with LA on that. Having used the carpool lane in LA during rush "hour" a few times, I didn't notice a substantial increase in efficiency. While I avoided the slowdowns that the right-hand lanes experience due to vehicles merging onto the freeway, I also sat in the carpool lane for quite awhile a few times when a vehicle ahead of me broke down or there was a fender-bender somewhere up the line. As Duncan McFetridge said, it will just become a larger parking lot - assuming we're still around to drive it once the interminable construction project is completed. Remember I-5 past the Del Mar fairgrounds while that part was being widened, carpool lanes put in and SR-56 and its access ramps were under construction? We will NEVER build our way out of congestion by adding lanes to freeways, carpool or not.
