KPBS Strengthens News Service

I think it's good that news will play later into the night. I will miss Performance Today and From the Top. I love Prarie Home Companion and Car Talk and I'm glad to see they're not going anywhere. Rick Steves puts me to sleep and I think it should be replaced with Piano Jazz. Marketplace Money is one of my must-listens, so I guess I'll have to tune in earlier. I'm also glad to see that This American Life is now being played twice. I'm skeptical of Splendid Table and "Q"; I would prefer music shows to lifestyle shows. I think lifestyle shows appeal to a very narrow section of listeners - those with spare money and spare time.

Police To Resume Ticketing Homeless For Sleeping On The Streets

What does this accomplish? I don't see the point of ticketing a homeless person. If sleeping on the streets were a choice, nobody would be sleeping on the streets! It's almost laughable. If somebody doesn't have the resources to buy their next meal, how are they going to have the resources to pay a fine? If I were homeless and the cops gave me a ticket I would just laugh. What are they going to do if I don't pay the fine? Assess me an equally unpayable late fee?

I find it incredible that we are going after the absolute poorest members of our society when the bankers who redirected billions of dollars from our bank accounts into their own pockets are living free and easy. Wealth inequality hasn't been this bad since the Gilded Age. I don't understand; people nowadays don't seem to care that real incomes for the middle class has remained constant over the past 30 years, even as productivity has risen. When are people going to realize that we are incredibly rich as a nation, but that we've chosen to concentrate that wealth on a very small fraction of the population? It doesn't seem fair to me.

Do You Have Anything To Report From The Earthquake?

My friend and I were doing some metalworking yesterday when the quake hit. We had finished a really tricky cut with the table saw about a minute before the quake hit. We were setting up the next cut when we felt the ground shaking, so we ran outside the garage into the middle of the street. We were fine and amazingly nothing in the shop fell over.
