After having lived in Portland, OR for 12 years, I have to say that San Diego seems to have eclipsed what Portland had to offer. It has been nearly 10 years since I lived in Portland, so maybe the beer community has continued to grow, but after visiting San Diego twice in the past two months (from my home in Tucson), I would have to agree that San Diego is fast becomming the premier beer community in the U.S. Certainly, there is no doubt in my mind about San Diego's love for "over-the-top" Imperial IPA's, with lots of hop nose, intense hop flavors and high-alcohol offerings. It's definitely a hop-head's dreamland! It will be interesting to see what happens for San Diego in the future - beer-wise, that is!
