Federal Judge Orders Removal Of Mt. Soledad Cross

i have a certain sentimental attachment to the mt soledad cross merely for its historical landmark significance. to be honest, I think it was nicer without all the black granite and military markers ... however, if instead of a cross, there was a totem pole, a big Buddha, a Muslim symbol or other religious marker on display, I think everyone would agree with the judge that these and all religious markers on public property should not be there.

San Diego: Today Is Peggy Shannon Day

This is certainly unfortunate. If the Mayor did this ... (Shannon alleged that Filner repeatedly asked her out and one time grabbed her and kissed her on the lips. She also contended that he walked by her after the first sexual harassment allegations were lodged and put his finger to his lips.), it certainly is out of bounds and inappropriate. I hope there was at least one witness; because it sounds unbelievable given the totality off the circumstances. She worked in the lobby, correct?

It's also unfortunate in this day and age that a friendly and innocent hug or touching in the workplace of any kind can be misinterpreted and cause people to lose their jobs. I know of two instances where that happened.

Gloria Hoping To Revive Plaza de Panama Plan

I like the idea of an underground parking structure behind the organ pavilion ...and covering the surface with grass...which adds more green space to the park....

San Diego Seeks A Swifter Current For Water Recycling

@ksartmb ... the City Council when Donna Frye served voted for exploring 'recycled water'... twice... one has to think this has to be part of the equation of our water future ...

San Diego Seeks A Swifter Current For Water Recycling

Former Councilwoman Donna Frye fought for this issue during her terms in office. The City Council passed a motion to pursue recycled water....Mayor Sanders vetoed it...the Council voted again on his veto and overrode it. The issue went back to Mayor Sanders and then went nowhere and lack of funding was the reason given.

I was able to dig out a SD Grand Jury report from the late 90s which noted the accepted use of recycled water in Orange County and elsewhere for many years. I believe there are recycled water operations on the east coast and in the middle east.

Has there been any cost analysis of recycled water production vs. desalination? I understand the latter is pretty expensive.

Filner Is San Diego's New Mayor After DeMaio Concedes

will someone please explain to DeMaio (and all other disciples of Rove/Norquist/Limbaugh etc) ... that it is the "Democratic Party" ... NOT the "Democrat Party" ...

does anyone call the "Republican Party" the "Republic Party"? the right-wing's constant misuse of the term "Democrat" is meant to be a slam ... they should correct this!

Prop 37 Could Set National Tone On Labeling Genetically Modified Food

If the public would like to hear more ... there's a free panel discussion on GMO and food safety at UCSD's Price Center on Tues Oct 23 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm ...

One major point from your story .... more than 60 countries, including Japan, Russia, China and most in Europe, require labels for genetically modified food. so why shouldn't we?

If there's nothing harmful abouit GMO, then why are the anti-Prop 37 forces worried?

Almost everything on our labels was fought for and won by consumers over time ... calories, amounts of sugar, salt, and other ingredients ...we should be all for more transparency, rather than less ...

and i hope the next big battle is against sugar and the obesity issue...there's an excellent video online with Dr Lustig ... he gets into the history of 'high fructose corn syrup"...

Will Battle Over Mount Soledad Cross Continue In Supreme Court?

I wonder how most would feel if there was a Buddha, or symbol from Islam, or star of David or some other religious symbol ... we have a First Amendment which asserts that no religion should be promoted on public land. I read the decision by Judge Irving years ago and it made sense. I can see that the cross may have some merit as an historical landmark. I'm not sure if that argument had ever been made.

Even if the war memorial was never constructed...the cross on its own with the daunting fence of wrought iron spikes around it seemed a bit daunting. Probably to ward off vandals or taggers; but a sad's a religious symbol; but don't get too close or you can get impaled on the fence (which actually happened to a high school student many years ago)...thru the thigh, if my memory serves me.
