Mark Fabiani Discusses Latest On Chargers' Push For New Stadium

Why don't the Chargers issue new ownership interests to the public in $10,000 shares? It could be formed as a limited partnership with the new owners having no management or personnel authority. The Chargers would have the right to buy back the new shares at par and resell them at market, possibly at a highrer amount than $10,000. each. Share owners would be entitled to special perks such as discounted tickets, VIP management parties, discounted merchandiswe and parking, etc. Green Bay Packers have a similar ownership arrangement and its way could be used as a model for the Chargers. It helps keep the team local and allows diehard fans to own a piece of the action.

Considering The Future Of Downtown San Diego

The 3 guests, all downtown boosters, had a wish list but no suggestions on how to pay for their wishes -- public bayfront, perifriry underground parking lots, library, new civic theater/city hall, Charger stadium, convention center expansion, limiting footprint size of new construction, etc. Rah Rah Rah. Nearly everyone wants those. The host seemed taken aback when 2 callers from the suburbs opined that downtown already is promoted at the expense of their neighborhoods. The guests acknowledged that downtown condos were overbuilt but failed to address why downtown, excepting Gaslamp, is derserted at night. Who bought those condos and why dont their residents populate downtown on weekends and after dark? The City, actually Region, needs a comprehensive plan or blueprint most of us can agree on but it must include ways to pay for our dreams. Elected Politicians fail miseably in long term planning. "Long Term" is anything beyond their elected term of office.
