I think having strong public schools benefits everyone in San Diego, not just parents. We should all contribute. That’s the way America works. We don’t all personally have to fight fires, catch robbers, collect trash, and change the bulbs in streetlights. Instead we work a job and then pay taxes so all that other stuff gets done too.
Supposedly we’re ranked 47th in the country in spending per student, and listening to today’s program it’s clear to me our schools are in trouble. But we don’t have to all become teachers or volunteer in the classroom to help out. We can help by voting for Prop. J, the $8 per month property tax increase.
Sure, we may never spend as much on kids as they do in West Virginia or Alabama, but every bit helps.
