We should expect such partisan attacks on bipartisanship from the Mayor. He came from the house, where talking to a Republican was a disgrace. So, this is just the first of many efforts of the new mayor to completely replace Republicans with liberal Democrats. It's really too bad that his partisan "sickness" has now infected San Diego city policies and appointments.
If a student is not in 8th grade Algebra, then they can't take 9th Grade Geom, 10th Grade Alg II , 11th Grade Pre-Calc , and then 12th Grade AP Calc. So at the 8th grade, the state takes away the opportunity for a kid to get into an AP class. A kid can always drop out of this sequence if the courses get too difficult for the student. But the kid can NEVER get back on the AP track after not taking 8th grade Alg unless the kid takes two math classes at the same time which is VERY difficult and stressful. So we have basically dumbed down the sequence for California 8th graders. I taught Algebra for about 14 years and know of what I speak. Too bad for today's kids....they deserve better, but our Sacramento politicians don't speak for the AP kids, they speak for the low achievers that we don't want to stress out. So they dumb down the sequence.
