It is more likely that union sponsored voter turnout efforts focused in largely Democratic areas in the city were successful and the traditionally conservative voter base rejected an openly gay mayoral candidate. But yes, it is more soothing and reassuring to concentrate on the fallacy that the San Diego citizenry have suddenly flocked to the Democratic side overnight.
