Setback For San Diego Convention Center Expansion Plan

The story should note that according to Scripps Institution of Oceanography studies climate change will cause regular flooding in the area. Hope they're planning an expansion that's meant to be partially under water.

Solar Power Advocates Challenge California Bill Regulating Rates

Thanks to Supervisor Jacob and the Sierra Club for standing up for San Diegans and local solar jobs! SDG&E does not act in the public interest. They are only motivated by maximizing their profits.

Activists Plan Keystone XL Pipeline Rally In Coronado

Hi there, I am a person who was at this protest today. I was there because the very great majority of scientists have told us that if we don't keep the planet from warming under 2 degrees (we're at close to 1 now), there will massive changes to our climate. We're already seeing the beginning - our oceans have risen several inches in the last century and it's expected that San Diego's seas will rise another 12-18 inches by 2050. Droughts, hurricanes and wildfires are occurring with more intensity. 25% of corn crops in the US were lost to the drought this year. Did you see what Sandy did to NYC?

Do you really want to leave a devastated environment and economy for your kids and grandkids?

We were protesting the American Petroleum Institute today .... they are the main lobbying group for the oil and gas industry - the most profitable industry the world has ever seen. They put millions into lobbying Congress, the President, and donating to campaigns - and advertising. Do you really trust them? They have demonstrated repeatedly that they have only one focus - their profits. I don't know how they sleep at night.

I urge KPBS listeners to look at the facts about climate - not the propaganda from the companies who are spending millions to keep their subsidies and profits, come what will.

What's Next For Proposed Quail Brush Power Plant?

As a supporter, I'm disappointed in KPBS. While they heard from the applicant, Cogentrix, and the California Energy Commission, both of whom support building new power plants, and a neutral city official, the voice that's missing is that of the people who oppose the plant.

The truth is that we do not need more dirty power. We need to move away from fossil fuels which are responsible for climate change, and toward renewables, like rooftop solar. Most San Diegans very much support this. SDG&E has been fighting rooftop solar, by trying to put a "tax" on solar customers, and wants to build new power plants because it makes money off them (while Cogentrix is building this plant, SDG&E has already said they would buy the power and would likely purchase the plant in a few years). This proposed plant would cost ratepayers $600 Million and would ruin one of the precious places in San Diego - Mission Trails Park.

Environment Groups Stage Elaborate Events for Climate Change Awareness

Hi KPBS, please expand this story!

This is part of 350.org's worldwide day of action on climate change to connect the dots between extreme weather and climate change.

Here in San Diego we'll be the "Human Wave" at Mission Beach to talk about how sea level rise due to climate change will regularly flood Mission Beach and other low-lying areas at high tide by 2050. This is tomorrow, Saturday, May 5 - 10:30am-12:30 pm.

Calif. AG Joins Lawsuit Challenging San Diego Transportation Plan

Happy to see the AG weighing in on this. The SANDAG plan doesn't come close to meeting California's laws to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. San Diego needs to do its part to address climate change!
