I was extremely disappointed by your show this morning. One panelist admitted she had just learned a bunch of acronyms about the MLPC process. Another admitted he knew nothing except where to get fish tacos. The third was most concerned about the bogus spearfish and hook problem with his boogie boarding daughter. The otrher caller (not the spear fish lady) wanted to talk about cloning fish. The MPLA process has been going on in southern California now for over a year. The San Diego Union has had a number of columns on all the problems with it, including stacking the Fish and Game Commission to get the result Mike Crisman wanted, to appointing an oil industry lobbiest to the Blue Ribbon Panel (BRL).
All week I have been listening to all the reasons I should rejoin KPBS. For the first time I am glad this year that none of my money is going to support a show that does such a horrible job on an issue important to San Diego. You got it right at least with Americans being encouraged to eat more fish. Did you know that 80% of our fish is imported from countries with few if any fishing management or marine mammal protection statutes. Did - well -- there are a lot of things your listeners should know about the fishing PROFESSION -- it is not an industry.
Did you know that the Port of San Diego was given a grant now totaling over $500,000 to determine on how, not if, or why, to revitalize commercial fishing in San Diego. If you have this topic on your TV show tonight, I hope you have someone on who knows something about the topic -- and I don't mean San Diego Coastkeeper, Oceana, Pew Charitable Trusts (oh, forgot -- they are one of your "sponsors") or some other similar organization. Thanks
Local Fishermen Worried About Marine Life Protection Plan
