ACLU Class Action Suit Alleges Threats, Coercion By Border Patrol

It makes me sad to read all the negative comments above. I taught ESL to immigrants for many years and can tell you they are the sweetest, kindest, most genuine people you can meet. They really want to learn English, unlike many native born students who often cause behavior problems in the classroom out of "entitlement" and just plain meanness. My grandparents were immigrants from Europe. I am sure they endured the same kind of racism that illegal and legal immigrants endure today from the same kind of people. Take a closer look at those folks who line the driveway at Home Depot. They just want to feed their families. And remember, "there but for the grace of god go you and I...."

San Diego Unemployment Drops To 7 Percent

Hey, I'm about to lose my job, after 7 years with the same business. I'd say we haven't seen the end of the unemployment situation. And that's not to mention that people are working longer hours for less pay, or have just dropped out. Many of my neighbors have moved to other parts of the country as well. Do a little more investigating, KPBS.

Roundtable: UT Ad Discounts, Marten's Record, Drones in San Diego, Planning Controversies

Not news about the Union-Tribune. I canceled my subscription the day the Iraq War began (thanks to their editorials) and have never looked back. Can't believe they are still in business.

Mayor Filner Weighs In On Sequestration And More

I like that Mayor Filner is standing up to the tourism industry in San Diego. I worked for them for many years and so did many of my friends. The industry has, over the years, gotten way out of control, firing everybody and anybody who didn't serve their purpose of more more more. I am especially impressed that the Mayor wants to see the backbone of our tourism industry, the workers, receive a living wage. Also, that he would like more of the revenues to go to public services, like maybe fire protection that we desperately need. I don't claim to know all the particulars in this dispute, just my perspective coming from the San Diego tourism industry and all that I have seen and experienced first hand.

How San Diego County Deals With Severe Mental Illness

I currently have no opinion on whether it is a good idea or not to implement Laura's Law in San Diego County. But years ago I was a medical transcriptionist in psychiatry for the County and also for UCSD, and I must say all those doctors and nurses were dedicated and compassionate people who did the best they could to balance patient rights with society's needs. That said, I don't believe most mentally ill individuals are a threat to themselves or others.
