As evident by some of the comments above, serious misconceptions exist in people's minds about Islam, the world's second largest (and fastest growing) faith.
As to references about the Qur'an, I would like to point out that quoting verses from an ancient religious text completely out of their historical context, only breeds misunderstanding, fear and hate. Regarding the rights of women, Islam gave women rights to own property, participate in community affairs, rights of inheritance and rights of divorce over 1400 years ago, concepts revolutionary for the time.
