Special Pay Increases San Diego County Salaries

The article fails to mention the San diego County Employees Retirement system is in great financial condition. It did loose ground when the market crashed but it has bounced back. It can be reseached on the SDCERA website. It is also not mentioned the County Employees ( below upper management) have always payed a portion of their own retirement. The percentage paid toward retirement by County Employees below upper management level has increased and will increase next year. The amount paid by employees who contribute varies according to entry age into the retirement system. The ones at the top management levels do not pay anything ever and will continue to not pay anything themselves. The person interviewed pays nothing into the system at all themselves. As was said the "premiums" were given to Employees at the lower levels through negotiation. The salaries for most County positions pay less then private business for the same positions. The retirement benefits are an enticement to workers to stay with the job. When the economy was good very few applications were recieved for open positions. When the economy went bad that trend reversed. I believe when I researched the County retirements before the average payout to retirees was less then $20000 a year.

County Moves Ahead on Embarcadero Park

The County board of supervisors is spending money on these projects when they claim to be in poor financial condition to the point they have cut services to children, elderly and the poor. They are spending money on building a huge fountain at the harbor and a huge office complex in Kearny Mesa. They hand out raises to those at the top at the same time as they threaten and cut the salary of probation police and other workers.
