Berkeley Pursues Gas-Pump Warning Labels

"The Western States Petroleum Association says the labels would violate the First Amendment."

How precisely would a warning label violate the First Amendment? If the label were, say, promoting false or misleading information, there is an argument to be made against them, but said argument would not - in fact - involve the First Amendment. Now Preventing the Petroleum folks from presenting their side would possibly violate the First Amendment but how exactly would a label do that?

Chelsea Clinton Says She's Pregnant

An egg was fertilized within the holy bonds of matrimony? Thanks for being there to cover it, KPBS.

Review: 'Carrie'

Missionaccomplished - Perhaps I've misunderstood your post, but the comparison between Spacek and Moore seems off to me. They didn't play the same role. Spacek played Carrie and Moore played Carrie's mother, Margaret. The role of Margaret was played by Piper Laurie in the original film.

Poor Students Make Up Majority In Western US Public Schools

The title of this article and the first line both mention the "Western U.S.," while the map indicates that this statistic applies to all but 14 states. The article then reveals the data is based on a report that focused on schools in the south and goes on to quote a think tank in the south. I'm not calling the data into question on that basis, but I do wonder if KPBS thought we wouldn't click the link of if the title hadn't re-contextualized this article as being about the western U.S.

Anon11 - PREACH! I've been saying this very thing for years, but given that a significant portion of parents divorce, remarry, and have more kids (or change partners and have more kids, without bringing marriage into it), do we impose these limits on couples or individual people? If a person with two children from a previous relationship then couples with a childless person, are they allowed one more? I say NO, unless through adoption. Where's your petition? I'm ready to sign.

Review: 'Carrie'

Sadly, this review reveals all the flaws I was worried about with the remake; I'll wait to watch and critique this on basic cable. Can you tell us more, though, about how Julianne Moore fared as Carrie's religious zealot of a mother? After her turn as Sarah Palin, I've really been looking forward to her continuing development as a matron of evil (Carrie's mom, President Coin . . .)

Interim Mayor Gloria To Announce Tuesday Whether He'll Run For Mayor

Great! Honorable Mayor Gloria, when can I expect a Jack in the Box drive thru on my block? And the next block over?

Filner Mediation Results In Deal; Council Votes Friday

Oh P_D - Once KPBS starts adhering to the news analysis standards of its sister stations in LA & SF, what's next? Will my morning commute be void of fluff movie reviews and silly profiles of local personalities? Golly, gee, gosh, how can they compete with commercial radio if they raise the intellectual bar?

Filner's Chief Of Staff Says Mayor Started, Completed Therapy A Week Early

He started the program a week early and no one noticed his absence from the mayor's office? At least, not the point that it was leaked to the press?

Former San Diego COO: Mayor's Office Canceled Harassment Training

That's a good point, David, but by now we're really beyond the stage of parsing terminology. Sexual harasser or not, Filner cannot effectively lead a city and a staff that don't want to be led by him. The dignified and ethical move at this point is to resign. Semi-retirement will leave him time to read, travel, lecture part time, drink heavily, and flirt with all the women he wants. It's a win-win-win.

Filner's Attorney: City Failed To Provide Mayor With Sexual Harassment Training

Did SDSU fail to provide him this training while he was working there? Did parenthood not help him observe the experiences of young women? Did his mother neglect to instill in him a respect for women?

This is really everyone's fault but his.
