What We Can Learn From Babies

The concepts expoused by Professor Gopnik are not new. Sometime around 1900, Maria Montessori recognized that children's cognitive thought proceses are inherently different from those of adults. She recognized that children have an "absorbent mind" from birth to around age 6, "possessing limitless motivation to achieve competence within their environment and to perfect skills and understandings."

I am glad that the professor is getting the message out; nevertheless it bears explainign that hers is not an original concept. Credit should go where credit is due.

Teens Used To Smuggle Drugs Across Border

With few exceptions, children living in Mexico are not elegible to go to public schools in the US - that is pretty simple. Why was that not even mentioned in your report? Elegibility for public schools is based on where you live. Most of those students in your story, are not elegiblge as they do not residency requirements.

If you are a USC, living in Chula Vista, you must send your child to a school in that school district, you don't get to choose say a school in La Jolla, just because you wanna... It is based on where you pay taxes - those people who choose to live in Mexico, register their car there, etc, are NOT paying the taxes that support the schools and other infrastructure they are abusing.

I would prefer a more complete story on this topic rather than the incomplete story which followed a report on "Survivor". Please, why do you think I listen to KPBS? Certainly not to hear about how millions of dollars are spent on voting people off a made-up island when schools are struggling to teach while being saddled with children who should not be at the school in the first place.
