walter kirn, here. what a graceful, generous, fluent and -- i think, at least -- illuminating review of a book i'm quite proud of, mostly because i tried to tell the truth, my truth, at least, about a process we all go through but aren't always honest about or fully conscious of the effects it has on our character: our American formal educations. it's a book i wrote for people like me who've wondered, as i have, whether the traditional propaganda about one's college years being the best time of his or her life might be one of society's most unchallenged deceptions. i hope the review brings readers to the book, and i hope this site attracts the readers it deserves.
