Band Teacher Breathes New Life Into American History

Well-framed review of William Reed's "Affair of Honour" here, including comments by La Jolla Country Day School student participants. Embedded in its strong libretto one hears tart, sophisticated social and political commentary as well -- around topical issues such as feminism and banking institutions gone amok.
However, Reed's iterated duet on the Code Duello -- stressing our historic maintenance of male propriety via dueling to the death -- is priceless satire. One wonders: is this practise now moribund or just transformed into some contemporary military service as ritual -- or verbal boxing match between men on Fox News ?!?

'Affair Of Honour' Aims To Teach History And Life Lessons

Having just travelled to La Jolla to hear William Reed's final stage reading of his exciting composition --"Affair of Honour" -- I'm envisioning its premiere @ our Santa Fe Opera's outdoor theater in the near future.
Exquisitely crafted duets already take flight, so its professional staging cannot be far behind.
La Jolla Country Day School's student collaboration (as singers and musicians) grounded its truth in the now-- and hopefully will continue to be an integral part of its evolution. Congratulations all around...
