How Common Core Is Changing Classrooms Across San Diego

"Common Core" are dumbed-down Federal standards being imposed on school districts from coast to coast thanks to Bill Gates and his money. I want nothing to do with "Common Core". It's been rolled out with very little fanfare, that being because once parents learn about "Common Core", they're up in arms and fighting against it. I didn't buy a home in a good school district to have my kids forced to learn a dumbed-down "brick in the wall" curriculum CREATED OUTSIDE OF THIS DISTRICT. I want NOTHING to do with "Common Core". It's a backwards idea.

No Need For Haste In Signing Up For Covered California

So, having finally paid attention to the ACA -- I find that it mainly compels me to purchase health insurance at about $700 a month, which is about the last quote I got. I've been paying out of pocket once our monthly premiums went from 200 to 220 to 240 to 260 to 280 over about six months years ago -- a large expense, given the economic conditions of the past five years. Health insurance went about the same time we gave up on cable television and a landline phone.

So, basically, the government is compelling me to buy private health insurance. I see this as a major gift to health care companies.

$2.5 Million In Six Weeks: Money Pours Into Mayor’s Race

> Working Families for a Better San Diego,

Founded in SEPTEMBER? That sounds really dodgy, as the British say about something that's clearly not on the square. Where does the money go? Are these just naked bribes or what? I never see any campaign junk mail and I never watch TV to see campaign ads. What do these people DO with the money they receive?

Is this how our government works? Whoever can barf up the most cash gets their point of view represented in government? I'm going to write Bob Filner in as Mayor. I thought he was doing a great job and that a local coup was staged by the usual suspects. Scummy behavior even for our little border town.

San Diego Files Complaint To Shut Down North Park Medical Marijuana Dispensary

The government has zero intention of ever figuring out how to enact Prop. 215, approved by voters back in 1996 -- seventeen years ago.

Deconstructing The Future For San Onofre

An "informational hearing"? That sounds like they talk, we listen. Fat guys in expensive suits, am I correct? And they want to extract HOW much money from ratepayers to shut down the failed SONGS? And this is being held in La Costa? Do I hear the first few notes of "Speak Softly, Love" from "The Godfather"? Big business, loads of money... put those together and you get...

In Push For 'Common' Standards, Many Parents Left Uneducated

Read the e-mail this man wrote after attending what turned out to be a one-sided presentation on "Common Core" -- it's a concise laundry list of what is wrong with "Common Core" AND an informative tale of how dissent is not allowed at public meetings which are being held to promote "Common Core"! This is getting uglier by the day!

In Push For 'Common' Standards, Many Parents Left Uneducated

Wow. Where to begin? An NPR story, so what else would I expect? First, this is MOST DEFINITELY a Federal effort at "standardization". Worse, it's a full-court press at dumbing down our children for their future as automatons for our "service economy".

This is more about NPR toeing the party/government line that about "Common Core" -- why, NPR, why? Can you not so much as MENTION the burgeoning opposition to this ROTTEN idea?

Interim Mayor, Chargers Meet Over Stadium, Convention Center Plans

Whom are we kidding? For an UNELECTED INTERIM Mayor, Todd Gloria certainly seems to have an agenda which was ready to roll. Which only supports the point of view that removing Filner was a local coup.

If the Chargers want a new stadium, they can pay for it. The NFL is not a charity, they make immense amounts of money. My God, for the obscene parking rates charged at the Murph now they could build a stadium and pay cash for it.

Seriously, whom are we kidding? To hell with the corporate welfare mentality that suggests the City build the Chargers a facility.

Should Edison Be Allowed To Profit On San Onofre's Faulty Steam Generators?

No. Edison can eat the cost. They have clever accountants and our tax system is as convoluted as it is in order to accommodate all manner of corporate shenanigans -- I'm sure there's some way to weasel out of any actual loss.

Syrians In San Diego Plead For U.S. Military Action

The "rebels" are OUTSIDE MERCENARIES. These people are Syrian, but support OUTSIDE MERCENARIES? Insanity! Revolutions do not begin from outside a nation. Look at a map. OUTSIDE MERCENARIES.

Israel wants all its neighbors reduced to squabbling factions. I'd suggest that these people are in support of Israel (don't want to use the Z-word; leads to banishment). Observe AIPAC agitating for US military strikes on Syria ("Let's you and him fight").

NO military action against Syria. Or anywhere else in the world, for that matter. Put the power on the shelf and LEAVE IT THERE. Allow peace to break out.
