ANNOUNCER: KPBS celebrates Cultural Diversity in partnership with Union Bank. We're honoring Local Heroes for Jewish Heritage Month, let's meet Marjory Kaplan, President and CEO of the Jewish Community Foundation. MARJORY KAPLAN: When I began this job about sixteen years ago, we had two and a half staff members. We were giving away maybe a million dollars a year, so contrast that to sixty-three million dollars last year. We have grown because we take nothing for granted, we're very intent on customer service. It's all about a Jewish value that we call Tzedakah, and it means responsibility. Our responsibility to make the world a better place. There's a wonderful saying from the Talmud, that goes something like this: "Charity blesses the giver, even more than the recipient." And I see that everyday in this job. ANNOUNCER: Find out more at kpbs.org/heroes.
