Video Transcript:
PIERRE HABIS: Hello, I’m Pierre Habis of Union Bank. Diversity is one of our most closely held values. That’s why we’re proud to honor Local Heroes in celebration of Black History Month. Let’s meet one of our honorees. JIAEL BROWNELL: My name is Jiael Korin Brownell, and I'm a teacher here at East Mesa Juvenile Detention Facility. We use what we do in the classroom with the English books to try and help our students to realize the potential they have. We're trying to bridge gaps between what students know and what they need to know to be successful in the world. This is the point in these guys lives where they're going to have to make decisions that are either going to lead them toward that success that we know they can aspire to and achieve, or down this terrible path to the left. Change can happen anytime, and I've seen guys get it. To have that epiphany, that's why I'm here.
