The Student Shakespeare Festival is held on various open-air stages in beautiful Balboa Park, in the Casa Del Prado area. Hundreds of students from K-12 representing San Diego City and County schools, perform 10-minute scenes, sonnets, music,and/or dance from Shakespeare's plays.

Hundreds of fans of Elizabethan drama will gather in Balboa Park on Saturday, April 24th for the fifth annual Student Shakespeare Festival. Free to the public, this one-day outdoor festival showcases the talents of local students as they perform dozens of 10-minute scenes from the Bard’s famous plays. The interpretations are diverse and delightful – you might see Shakespeare done with puppets, in American Sign Language, or danced to Latin jazz.

It all begins at 12:30 with a parade of costumed performers starting at the organ pavilion. As soon as the parade is over, the various scenes are presented on several outdoor stages located along the Prado, all the way down to the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center.

The San Diego Shakespeare Society
inspires life-long learning by furthering the public’s enjoyment and appreciation of Shakespeare’s works, encourages the study of Shakespeare, and promotes interest in literature, poetry, art and music through lectures, competitions, and education/outreach programs.
