Scripps Ranch Theatre will present “Out On A Limb - New Plays from America's Finest City (OOAL),” three brand new one-act plays written by local playwrights. All three plays run all three days and will be performed Friday, June 29, Saturday, June 30, and Sunday, July 1, 2012 at the theater on the Alliant International University campus.

In its first year, OOAL is a new play development program designed to create and stage new plays that spring from the stories of San Diego and its people. The program is produced by award-winning director Robert May. From many submissions received, local playwrights Lisa Kirazian, George Soete, and Tim West were commissioned to pen new one-act plays that had to include some element of San Diego.

The following plays were written, given readings, revised, and are now ready for production:

Lisa Kirazian's "On Air" - The pressures of life and career collide for a young literature professor teaching at a San Diego college during Vietnam, as three of his students face the draft and come to him for advice.

George Soete's "Pho Donut" - Six old folks meet at a donut shop every morning. When one of them passes away, the others embark on a funny and touching journey toward a deeper friendship.

Tim West's "Green Flash at Sunset" - Almost a century apart, two couples watch the sun drop below the ocean's horizon, awaiting a rare atmospheric phenomenon, in a tale of timely meetings and timeless love.

Also involved are several of San Diego's best known and respected directors: Antonio "T.J" Johnson, Don Loper, and Katie Rodda, PhD, and actors including Paul Bourque, Jeffrey Jones, Charles Peters, and Brian Salmon.

OOAL's program director and producer Robert May said, "I'm so pleased and excited that OOAL is finally happening. OOAL is an idea I've been kicking around and discussing with artists I trust and respect since early 2010. This program is different from most in that we don't start with a fully realized script, we start with the idea for a play. This year the idea had to have something to do with San Diego. The playwrights submitted an idea, our committee chose a few to go to first draft, and from those we selected Lisa Kirazian, George Soete, and Tim West to complete their ideas and have their plays not only worked but produced on the SRT stage. Through this program we are employing nearly 30 actors, directors, and designers, as well as the playwrights - all supported financially, logistically, and creatively by Scripps Ranch Theatre. We hope this is the first year of many to come, and we're proud to join a few select organizations in San Diego going "out on a limb" to produce brand new work by local playwrights."

Performance times are 8 p.m. for Friday, June 29 & Saturday June 30; and 2 p.m on Sunday, July 1, 2012.

Tickets are $15 for all seats, general admission.
