Oceanside Museum of Art is launching a new educational program, Art + Community Series, moderated by OMA Executive Director, Daniel Foster. These regular panels and lectures will discuss the power of art to transform the economic prosperity, quality of life and identity of a community.

Find out how the art scene in North County San Diego is gaining momentum with increased partnerships and collaborations between like-minded institutions at “State of the Arts in North County San Diego” on Tuesday, April 1st.

Join us for this moderated panel discussion with Daniel Foster, and learn more about specific initiatives such as the Oceanside Cultural Consortium and the Oceanside Arts Walk starting August 1.

Participating in the conversation will be key arts leaders working in the North County region including Jim Gilliam, Arts Administrator, City of Encinitas; Karen McGuire, Curator of Exhibitions, Cannon Art Gallery, City of Carlsbad; Marilyn Huerta, Community Liaison, Cal State University, San Marcos and Wendy Wilson, Executive Director, Escondido Arts Partnership.

The panel discussion is free for OMA members and $10 for nonmembers.

For reservations please call (760) 435-3721. Seating is limited.

Daniel Foster brings significant experience in the area of community change and redevelopment to the conversation. As Executive Director of the Riverside Art Museum from 2003-2009, he was widely regarded as a critical “change agent” leader for arts & culture in the region and an important catalyst for establishing the city of Riverside as the “City of Arts & Innovation.”

Since coming to Oceanside Museum of Art in October 2012, Foster has been forging stronger relationships with community leaders. In July 2013 Foster started the Oceanside Cultural Arts Consortium, a collaborative of over 60 arts and business leaders in Oceanside that meet monthly to discuss ways to create stronger community partnerships and programs. Foster also serves as a Board Member on the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce and speaks regularly to local Rotary clubs and other civic institutions.
