Friends Of Taka Sumi-e Japanese Brush Painting Art Show & Sale

The power of horses and the beauty of flowers will be highlighted at San Diego’s historic Balboa Park during the 12th annual Friends of Taka Sumi-e art Society Show and Sale, to be held Saturday and Sunday March 29 and 30, 2014. In addition to artworks, the show will feature displays of beautiful flower arrangements, called ikebana. Show hours are 11 am to 4 pm both days. Admission is free.

The art show and sale, held in Room 101 at the Casa del Prado, highlights Japanese art, culture, and traditions.

Students and associates of San Diego Community College instructor Takashi Ijichi will exhibit original paintings of many subjects in both sumi (ink) and Asian watercolors. Highlights will include demonstrations of brush painting by Takashi Ijichi, a wearable art fashion show, choral performances, and musical performances of the koto, a Japanese stringed instrument, and the shakuhachi, the Japanese flute.
