NAMM’s Museum of Making Music (MoMM) celebrates Make Music Day, a global event, on Sunday, June 21st, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. with a free community event that is open to all ages.

MoMM invites music makers of all levels to bring their instruments and play on one of three stages in the museum or simply enjoy over 10 live performances by internationally acclaimed musicians and local favorites.

Lineup includes Bert and Nancy Turetzky (bass and flute), Paul Seaforth (saxophone) and the Bluegrass trio Buzzard Creek Junction. Throughout the day, guests can participate in free 15-minute music lessons taught by MoMM volunteers and friends, tour the museum and enter giveaways to win a banjo provided by Deering Banjos and one-year museum memberships.

Started in France in 1982, Make Music Day has grown into a worldwide phenomenon. This global holiday brings people of all ages together in the streets, parks, rooftops and anywhere else music can be heard, to enjoy the beauty of music. Make Music Day is celebrated in 700 cities and 120 different countries.

Admission to the museum and its Make Music Day event is free and open to all ages. Guests must RSVP. Those interested in performing on one of the three stages available must call Bill Kilpatrick at 760.304.5819.

About NAMM’s Museum of Making Music:
Opened to the public in March 2000 by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), the Museum of Making Music (MoMM), a 501-c-3 non-profit organization, is located on the first floor of NAMM’s headquarters in Carlsbad, California. The Museum was developed to showcase and celebrate the music products industry and provides opportunities for cultural enrichment while preserving our musical heritage through special exhibitions, innovative concerts and educational programs aimed toward a wide range of audiences.

Make Music Day Activities at Balboa Park:
In addition to the day of activities at MoMM, select Make Music Day activities will be happening throughout San Diego County. Make Music Day San Diego in Balboa Park will include “Mass Appeal” events (massed groups of musicians playing together on a single type of instrument such as ukuleles, banjos, harmonicas or guitars) as well as unique, site-specific musical performances and educational programming like hands-on instrument making workshops.

Dates and times of events are subject to change without notice. Always check the event organizer's website for the most updated schedule before attending.
