MiraCosta College is proud to present an art exhibit featuring the work of artists Siobhan Arnold and Meagan Shein. The show opens March 10 and continues through April 9 in the college’s Kruglak Gallery.

The gallery will be closed March 16–19.

“A Murmur in the Trees” is the collaborative work of Arnold and Shein, who create as the artist collective SIEN. Arnold is a San Diego-based photography and installation artist. Shein works with drawing, encaustic and installation, and currently lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Arnold and Shein’s collaboration begins with intervention on each other’s works: Shein draws Arnold’s images and Arnold sews on Shein’s images, resulting in a combined visual aesthetic. “A Murmur in the Trees” is about the contradiction between looking and seeing (how we mis-see and un-see) and explores the inherited, imposed and internalized systems of the visible world.

The work is particularly informed by the forest as locus for the myths of childhood, as well as the pain and beauty of motherhood.

A free reception will be held Thursday, March 12, 6:30–8:30 p.m. and talks by the artists will be held Wednesday, March 11 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

MiraCosta College’s Kruglak Art Gallery is located in the Oceanside Campus Student Center, Bldg. 3400, located at 1 Barnard Drive.

The Kruglak Gallery hours are Mondays/Tuesdays, 2:30–7:30 p.m.; and Wednesdays/Thursdays, 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Admission is free.
