MiraCosta College presents, "Markings," an interactive art exhibit featuring the work of artist Nan Curtis.

The show opens Nov. 18 and continues through Dec. 10 in the college’s Kruglak Gallery.

In this exhibit, Curtis will use the everyday vernacular of both the built environment as well as the landscape to create site-responsive artworks that highlight aspects of MiraCosta College’s Oceanside Campus.

Using Mylar, construction locator flags and photography, Curtis will alert viewers to a specific locale and illuminate what they are supposed to see. These site-specific artworks ask to be both pondered and overlooked by the passerby. The Kruglak Gallery will have a site-specific sculpture as well, and 24” x 36” photos that document the pieces around campus.

Curtis received her BA from the College of Wooster and her MFA from the University of Cincinnati. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally, including DiverseWorks, Houston, TX; Bellevue Art Museum, WA; Tacoma Art Museum, WA; ConsolidatedWorks, Seattle, WA; FAARM Gallery, Philadelphia; RSDS at the Nottdance Festival, Nottingham, England; the Melbourne Art Center, Australia; and the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art. She was the Feldman Gallery project space curator and director at the Pacific Northwest College of Art from 2000-2006 as well as having initiated numerous independent curating projects in the Northwest.

A reception for Curtis will be held Wednesday, Nov. 18, 12:30–2:30 p.m. and the artist will give talks that same day at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Admission to the gallery and reception is free and open to the public.
