MiraCosta College presents an exhibit featuring the paintings of artists incarcerated at Donovan Correctional Facility in Otay Mesa.

The show runs March 15 through April 14, 2016, in the college’s Kruglak Gallery.

"Conviction" will feature a group of paintings created by prisoners who participate in Project PAINT, The Prison Arts Initiative at Donovan, a men’s medium/maximum security prison.

Project PAINT is a visual arts program developed in 2013 to provide fine arts instruction and opportunities for artistic exploration for prisoners. It is funded in collaboration between the California Department of Corrections and the California Arts Council.

The works in this exhibit were created in classes including Arts Immersion, a 40-week course in which participants are introduced to a variety of different historical arts movements including representational and abstract pieces in various styles, and Drawing and Painting, a 24-week overview of foundational concepts and practices within two-dimensional art forms.

"Conviction" highlights inmates’ ability to flourish both despite and because of such surroundings.

MiraCosta College’s Kruglak Art Gallery will be closed March 21 through 25, 2016. For additional information call (760) 795-6657.

Dates and times of events are subject to change without notice. Always check the event organizer's website for the most updated schedule before attending. Check local COVID-19 restrictions and updates.
