The New Americans Museum presents a photography series by Quetzal Mauuci.

The exhibit is inspired by conversations the artist had with teenage children of immigrants, finding a common thread and recognizing her own feelings of displacement.

These conversations became the impetus behind the photography series Children of Immigrants, on display from Friday, Feb. 12 to Saturday, March 12, 2016.

The opening reception is on Feb. 12 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The subjects in Mauuci's photographs reflected on their childhoods and how they defined American culture. They spoke of self-identification and the constant negotiation of cultural identity.

The teens came from Argentina, India Italy, Poland, Mexico, Peru, and other places, but their stories often share a common theme: struggling with identity and a sense of displacement, while in the process, claiming their place as new Americans.

Admission to the museum is free. For additional information call (619) 756-7707.

Dates and times of events are subject to change without notice. Always check the event organizer's website for the most updated schedule before attending. Check local COVID-19 restrictions and updates.
