The Irish Congress of Southern California, an all-volunteer organization, is proud to announce that its 36th Annual San Diego St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The parade, which is the largest parade west of the Mississippi, will step off on Saturday, March 12, 2016 promptly at 10:30 a.m. on Fifth Avenue at Laurel Street as thousands of marchers and spectators gather to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

The Parade travels up Fifth Avenue from Laurel to Upas Street and then returns down Sixth Avenue to Laurel. An event filled Irish Festival follows in Balboa Park with live entertainment.

There will be over 120 parade entries. Come and see bagpipers and high school marching bands, police and fire department units, floats, dancing groups, marching and equestrian units, clowns, dignitaries and honorees, representatives from Ireland, antique cars and more. Moe Giacalone is the 2016 Parade Chairperson and the Theme of this year’s Parade is “Commemorating the 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland.”

Our Irish Festival in Balboa Park (Sixth Avenue and Maple Street area) runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and features outstanding entertainment on two stages. In the morning we have Irish step dancers and then have a full afternoon line-up with San Diego’s Irish folk singers and bands.

All day there are craft booths, an authentic Irish food village and other food booths, a beer garden, a Celtic village and a kids zone with rides. Over 30,000 people are expected to attend. Trolleys run from a free parking lot near the Prado in Balboa Park and several other locations to the festival.
