Transforming Endangered Species Cells From The San Diego Zoo Into Embryos For Species Revitalization

The northern white rhinoceros is a species on the brink of extinction. Only three individuals remain on the planet and these cannot breed naturally. A team at the San Diego Zoo plans to save the rhinos by transforming cells from the SD Zoo Global's Frozen Zoo into stem cells that differentiate into sperm and egg cells, and then using in vitro fertilization (IVF) to create embryos.

The goal is to use this method as a last effort to re-populate the rhino species. Please join us for this fascinating talk given by one of the Zoo's research team members.
