Culinary Historians of San Diego will present "Jail House Cuisine," featuring Louise Mathews, at 10:30 a.m. March 18, 2017 in the Neil Morgan Auditorium of the San Diego Central Library. Mathews will take the audience behind bars as she describes her 21 years of cooking and eating in jails.
Louise Mathews has over 42 years of food service management experience, 21 of them as Chief with the San Diego Sheriff's Department. Her many awards include the Diamond Award for Corrections, Honorary Doctorate of Food Service Degree and the IFMA Silver Plate Award. She is the author of "Jailhouse Cuisine: From the Right Side of the Bars," part memoir, part cookbook, in which she details her "one woman crusade" to improve the food served in jails.
The event is free and open to the public.
