Moxie Theatre stages "Bliss (or Emily Post is Dead)," a play that blends "Greek tragedy and 'Mad Men,' (minus the misogyny)."

Moxie founder and former Artistic Director Delicia Turner Sonnenberg directs Jami Brandli’s take on the Greek women, tackling issues of race, addiction, divorce ranches, and how to host the perfect afternoon tea.

It’s 1960 and Emily Post’s guide to etiquette is keeping America "great." But in a turn of events, a stranger materializes who might end life as the citizens of North Orange, New Jersey know it. This show reimagines tragic Greek heroines as pill-popping housewives in a cautionary tale with deadly consequences.

"Bliss (or Emily Post is Dead)" runs Jan. 28 through Feb. 25, 2018.

(Super) Short Review: This clever play transplants Greek heroines to 1960s suburban New Jersey. Medea, Clytemnestra and Antigone pop pills to calm their mysterious inner rage while Cassandra tries to change their tragic fates. It's funny and well-acted, with beautiful costumes and a standout set. It's also a commentary on feminism, race and the power to control your future.
