The central mystery of this Holocaust drama and the interwoven fates of the three characters propel this dazzlingly photographed black and white film to a surprising climax.

These three—a member of the French Resistance, a French collaborator and a high-ranking German SS officer—tell their shared story in a series of flashbacks, directly addressing the camera and giving the film the feel of a documentary. Fans of art house fare will agree with The New York Times, which called it “a strikingly shot Holocaust drama… [that] shows a flair for imagery that evokes the 'Citizen Kane' photography of Gregg Toland.”

Contains some concentration camp re-enactment scenes.

Awards: Best Feature Film, Golden Eagle Awards, Russia 2017 | Best Film, Nika Awards, Russia 2017 | Silver Lion Best Director, Venice Film Festival 2016
