The Chicago Six has been entertaining audiences with humorous outbursts, and original arrangements of classic jazz standards since 1982.

They began as the happy hour band on Friday nights at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach from 1982-1992 and it was then that actor Buddy Ebsen adopted the Six as his backup band.

In the ensuing years, the band performed in jazz festivals throughout the US, Canada, Europe, and parts of South America. This included a live television program in Milan, Italy along with jazz greats Wynton Marsalis, Dave Brubeck, and Max Roach.

That performance, “The Last Jazz of the Century," aired December 2008 and attracted several million viewers. Over their touring period of 32 years, various editions of the band recorded 30 albums. The current Chicago Six is led by drummer John Hall, the last original member.

This program is funded in part by the City of Carlsbad’s Cultural Arts Office.
