Quartet Nouveau At San Diego Central Library

Quartet Nouveau performs at the Neil Morgan Auditorium on Sunday, March 18 at 2:30 p.m. at the San Diego Central Library in downtown.

The program includes the winning piece from Quartet Nouveau's 2017 Composition Competition, Mai by Sadd Haddad which translates to 'water' in Arabic. This piece emerged from his mother's constant urge to convert old VHS home video tapes into a digital format in order to preserve our familial history since the time of my birth. After importing hours and hours of video, the composer picking out snippets of audio that immediately grasped his attention as important moments in the past, encompassing aural sources as wide varying as an uncle Elie announcing "first swimming lesson" to a Melkite Catholic congregation chanting the Sanctus during his baptismal service.

The second piece on the program is Beethoven's String Quartet Op. 59 No.1.Quartet Nouveau will be performing the 2nd and 3rd quartet from Op. 59 later this year.

This concert is free and open to the public. We hope to see you there!
