Hundreds of plants will go on sale at discounted prices when the Master Gardener Association of San Diego County holds its annual Plant Extravaganza on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Balboa Park’s Casa del Prado building and adjoining patios.

Drought-tolerant plants, flowers, fruit trees, vegetables and succulents will be offered alongside hand-made birdhouses, garden art and books.

This year’s free event includes demos on flower arranging, propagating, growing in small spaces, the latest on irrigation and composting, and free sharpening of hand pruners. First-time gardeners have the chance to get skilled advice from experienced Master Gardeners trained by the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE). It is the best opportunity to buy locally grown plants suited for San Diego’s climate.

The Master Gardener Association of San Diego County is a non-profit organization and
85 percent of all proceeds will support educational outreach services including community,
school and demonstration gardens, a free gardening hotline, and specific programs to help
change the way San Diegans garden.

Dates and times of events are subject to change without notice. Always check the event organizer's website for the most updated schedule before attending. Check local COVID-19 restrictions and updates.
