What: The 22nd edition of the Rock ’n’ Roll San Diego Marathon & ½ Marathon

· Beginning in San Diego in 1998, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series has brought the fun to run for over 20 years by infusing each course with live bands, cheer teams, and more

· Athletes set to hit the road in America’s Finest City on June 1-2

· Starting at Balboa Park, runners will tour under the iconic Hillcrest, North Park, and Normal Heights signs, through the beautiful Mission Hills neighborhood before finishing at the Waterfront Park

· Matt Nathanson, known for his breakthrough multi-platinum hit "Come on Get Higher,” to headline the Rock ’n’ Roll Concert Series in Waterfront Park after the race

Elite field is stacked with 2019 Boston Marathon Champion Lawrence Cherono; defending Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Half Marathon champion, Titus Ekiru; 19-year-old Meseret Belet who is the Junior World Record Holder for the half marathon (1:07.51); and Bernard Ngeno, who brings the fastest half marathon personal record time to the field (sub 60-minute), among others.

Who: Over 23,000 registered participants

Runners are traveling from all 50 states and 46 countries, regions, and territories
About 56% of the participants are women
12-year-old Calden Fowler from Oceanside, CA is youngest male half marathon participant
12-year-old Ryanna Salazar from San Diego, CA is youngest female half marathon participant
82-year-old Charles Sayles from Glendale, CA is oldest male marathon participant
86-year-old Beth Petersen from Glendale, CA the oldest female half marathon participant, and she has participated in every Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon since the inaugural event in 1998
Bryon Solberg, spinal cord injury survivor uses a cane and leg braces to stay active, completing over 50 marathons
Johan Otter, a grizzly bear attack survivor who has run every Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon


· Matt Nathanson will headline the post-race Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series.

Race Days:

· 5K (Saturday): Starts and finishes at Balboa Park

· Marathon, Half Marathon & Two-Person Relay (Sunday): The races take off from the historic start line at Balboa Park and travel through Hillcrest, North Park and Normal Heights before the Marathon breaks from the Half Marathon just past mile 8. The route also runs through Mission Hills, Old Town and Mission Bay Park before both the Marathon and Half Marathon finish downtown at Waterfront Park with a finish line festival.
