Led by punk-rock accordionist Renée de la Prade, the Rebel Lovers play rocking dance music for people of all ages. Their show is a mix of zydeco, blues, rock, soul, and other styles to make very spicy grooves. Originally from San Francisco, and now living in Hamburg, Renée de la Prade plays the accordion, stomps, dances, and sings. She is joined by Ingo Bräuning from Meining, (now Hamburg) on the drums.

Renée grew up playing guitar in Northern California, loving rock and punk music. She got her first taste of Irish traditional music, including the accordion, when she was 19. She immediately decided to learn the accordion, incorporating elements of both punk and traditional folk music into a unique musical language. To earn money while studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Renée practiced on the streets in hopes of earning some tips. The setting made immediate sense for her, and she has now racked up 17 years as a street performer. Over that time, her influences have grown to include zydeco, blues, soul, and other folk styles. Renée also launched the Accordion Babes Pin-Up Calendar as a vehicle for celebrating some of the many talented women who play the accordion.

This event is funded in part by the City of Carlsbad Cultural Arts Office and is presented in conjunction with the Museum's "Accordions: Expanding Voices in the USA" special exhibition.
