San Diego Natural History Museum, Digital Gym Cinema and Film Geeks San Diego present a month-long series that explores scientific themes in cult cinema and provides audiences with the science behind the fiction.

Here’s how it works: cult sci-fi favorites are paired with local scientists for an evening of mind-expanding fun. Guest scientists will contextualize scientific themes explored in the movie by providing corrective commentary – explaining what the filmmakers got right and, in some cases, so very wrong, in portraying concepts from the bleeding edge of scientific inquiry.

Films will shown on Fridays in May, with screenings taking place either at The Nat (1788 El Prado, Balboa Park) or the Digital Gym Cinema (2921 El Cajon Blvd., 92104). Doors for The Nat will open at 5:30 p.m., with food, beer, and wine available to purchase. Doors to the Digital Gym open at 6 p.m. with concessions for sale.

Discussions begin at 7 p.m. and screenings are at 7:30 p.m.
