One Book, One San Diego: Feature Film Screening

Join us for a film that documents the activism of ACT-UP and TAG in contention with the slow and sometimes hostile response of the government and medical establishment to the AIDS epidemic and impacted communities. Join us for a moving look at our recent history.

Visit the San Diego Public Library's event page to learn the title of the film.

Presented as part of One Book, One San Diego, featuring the 2019 selection, “The Great Believers” by Rebecca Makkai.

“The Great Believers” is a historical novel about the terrors and tragedies of the AIDS epidemic and its repercussions, through a story about friendship and redemption in the face of tragedy and loss, set in 1980s Chicago and contemporary Paris.

It won the Stonewall Book Award, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, and was optioned by Amy Poehler for television.
