Film & Discussion: 'How To Survive A Plague'

Join us for a free screening of the documentary "How To Survive a Plague." In the late 1980s, members of Act-Up and other AIDS activists battle hostility and indifference to bring attention to the disease and try to reduce the number of victims while hoping to lead the drive to find a cure.

Following the screening we will discuss the film and how it Rebecca Makkai tackles the topic of survival in her novel, “The Great Believers.”

“The Great Believers” is a historical novel about the terrors and tragedies of the AIDS epidemic and its repercussions, through a story about friendship and redemption in the face of tragedy and loss, set in 1980s Chicago and contemporary Paris.

It won the Stonewall Book Award, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, and was optioned by Amy Poehler for television.
